Day 1 – Arrival to Cappadocia
Fly to Cappadocia. Transfer to our hotel and check-in. After refreshment we will make a scenic tour of the area. Lunch will be at a traditional restaurant. We will visit the highlights of the area, the Goreme Open Air Museum and one of the underground cities built in the 7th century by the Christian community as a refuge from invading Arabian armies. The Open Air Museum, with its many churches and chapels, is in the best preserved valley of the region. Some of the underground cities descend to the depth of 15 stories. Late afternoon return to our hotel. Overnight in Cappadocia.
Day 2 – Walking Day
We start our day with the spectacular views of the White Valley, taking a moderate walk through vineyards surrounded by fairy chimneys. We arrive at one of the highest spots of the region, where we get a 300 degree view of the magic landscape of Cappadocia. Our next walk is down the Pigeon valley, with its numerous pigeon lofts, carved high in the rock faces above the trails. (Five hours total walking). Return to our hotel. Overnight in Cappadocia.
Day 3 – Walking Day
After breakfast we make a short transfer to Cavushin to start our walk. We hike up to Bozdag for a wonderful panoramic view of the Cavushin valley. We then begin our descent down to Kizilcukur, where we have lunch in the garden of an old church. Such churches are inhabited by local land owners, who are appointed their guardians. In the afternoon we walk down the famous Red Valley, which gets its name from its red volcanic tufa. We meander through orchards, tunnels and other interesting pathways. At the end of the day, return to our hotel. Overnight in Cappadocia.
Day 4 – Walking Day
Today we walk through remote villages where traditional life still maintains, as in the old days. We start our walk from Kavak village, passing through Bahceli, then Ayvali, finishing our day at the ruins of the 11th century Greek settlement of Gomeda ( 5- 6 hours walk total). After a little rest we transfer to our hotel. Overnight in Cappadocia.
Day 5 – Walking Day
After breakfast we have a short drive to the Gomeda valley, where we finished our walk the day before. Our morning walk through the Pancarlik valley takes us to a small village, a quiet town with a Byzantine/Seljuk fortress. The town itself was founded by seven families from Uzbekistan in Central Asia in the 17th century. We will have a lunch in the Ortahisar Cultural Museum, followed by a visit to a private museum in the village. Then a short drive to the Rose Valley, where we walk in the afternoon. Return to our hotel in the late afternoon. (5 hours walk in total). Overnight in Cappadocia.
